Procedures:
Teacher will:
1. Pair students for this activity.
2. Have all students go to the Cyber Demons Website.
3. Click on Web Activities.
4. Scroll down and click on M&M Math
5. Click on the Activity Sheet icon.
6. Go to File on the menu bar and scroll down to print (or have the activity sheet already Xeroxed and pass them out). Each pair of students gets one activity sheet.
7. Pass out a bag of M&M’s to each group.
8. Read the directions aloud.
9. Discuss how to categorize the M&M’s (and be sure to tell the students that they cannot eat the M&M’s until after the activity and not to share their group’s information with any other groups.)
10. Have groups estimate the total amount of M&Ms in their bag.
11. Have groups estimate how many for each color.
12. Students put both numbers in the corresponding field on the activity sheet.
13. Tell groups to open the bag of M&Ms on a sheet of paper.
14. Have students group the M&Ms by color.
15. Students count and record the actual number of each color of M&Ms.
16. Students put the number in the cell (box) below its color in the row labeled ACTUAL (the real amount).
17. Record the total number of M&Ms.
